Helen Shearer works from a small studio just outside Ballymena, which she shares with her husband Rory Shearer, who is a potter.
Working in porcelain she takes inspiration from her surroundings and life. She uses colours, textures and forms often seen in the landscape of her home in rural Co. Antrim and also from her interest in symbolism.
Helen trained initially in Jewellery and Silversmithing at the College of Art and Design, Belfast and most of her work is made to be worn. However, more recently, she has extended her range to include larger framed pieces of porcelain using oxide and gold leaf.
