gerard moran

Gerard Moran is a Derry man educated at the University of Ulster at Coleraine, where he graduated with a B.S. and a PhD. in Philosophy. It was during this time that he was learning to develop his artistic skills and was for many years essentially a self -taught portraitist, working mainly in monochrome. However, realizing that it was a colourful world out there he decided change was needed if his work was to develop.

That development has led to interpretations of the landscape that are very personal and a unique style that is unmistakably Gerard Moran. Vibrant is an overused word in terms of painting, but it is the only word that seems appropriate or adequate when trying to describe the work of this painter. The bays, bogs and buildings catch fire and glow in violet, olive and gold. They speak of a delight in changing skies mirrored in still waters and the solid jut of headland or castle.

A member of the local art society since 1991, Gerard has won first, second and third highly commended awards at the society’s annual exhibitions over the years. His work has earned him much popular acclaim and examples can be found in private and public collections worldwide.

We can arrange for Gerard to undertake private commissions and also portrait work.
